A Trip Down Memory Lane (And Through the Golden Arches)

Growing up, "fast food" wasn’t something we saw every day. In fact, for most of my childhood, there weren’t any fast-food restaurants at all. Then, in 1964, something big happened in Greenville—McDonald’s opened its first location in town, and it was all anyone could talk about!

I remember my dad loading the whole family into our old white station wagon (though I can’t quite recall the make), and off we went. It felt like a grand adventure just crossing town to see what all the buzz was about. As we approached, there they were: the Golden Arches, standing tall and proud over the restaurant. The sign advertised 15¢ hamburgers—or at least that’s how I remember it. For us kids, seeing those arches for the first time felt like pure magic. The crisp fries, the hamburgers hot off the grill, and the speed of it all—it was unlike anything we’d ever experienced.

Right behind that McDonald’s was a cow pasture, fenced in the ordinary way with wire mesh. I bet that pasture sold for a premium someday!

Creating Lasting Impressions

Looking back, it’s funny to think about how novel and exciting that moment was, especially compared to today’s world, where fast-food options are around every corner—unless, of course, you live in my town of population 932! But back then, it was a brand-new experience, and it’s one I still cherish.

Here at Louis E. Page, we take a similar pride in serving our customers in ways that leave a lasting impression. While we may not be serving up hamburgers or fries, we’re always focused on bringing quality, reliability, and a bit of that "wow factor" to every product we offer—whether it’s wire mesh for a fencing project, stainless steel, or snow fence.
